This text book has been developed to accommodate the needs of medical students and other courses in physiology. As a result, the text is developed as a sequenced, coherent whole with a logical progression from concepts to detail providing comprehensive coverage of the subject matter. There are 12 units that have been mapped out covering all aspects of human physiology. It includes an introduction to general physiology, fundamental molecular biology and cellular biochemistry, homeostasis and regulation of metabolism overviews, cardiovascular system overviews with emphasis on oxygen transport mechanisms including pulmonary circulation and gas exchange in alveoli, renal system overviews including discussion on urine production and excretion mechanisms etc. etc. It also includes an introductory unit on respiratory physiology covering oxygen transport mechanisms in the pulmonary circulation, discussing alveolar gas exchange, distribution of blood flow in the lungs etc. The text organizes topics in a logical sequence with associated ideas and explanations presented in a manner that students easily understand. Acknowledgments are placed at the end of every chapter for relevant bibliographic references to facilitate further research. The book has been written with the intention that it be used in conjunction with lecture notes. Online access to lectures is made possible by linking together different chapters so that concepts are presented systematically through interlinked material giving continuity between chapters thereby allowing students to glean very important information from each chapter without having to go back over previous material. The hard copy of the book is supported by an Online site where students can access all the figures and tables. This book has been favorably reviewed in national and international journals such as Indian J Physiol Pharmacol; Medical Education; British Journal of Educational Studies; European Health Psychologist etc. It has also been reviewed by a number of renowned medical educators around the world including Prof. Steve Field, Executive Director of the International Society for Simulation in Healthcare in his blog which is available online. The book has won several awards including the Best Book in Medical Science Award in 2004 by the World Federation for Medical Education, Hong Kong Chapter. The Uniliv Medical books are also published by Uniliv Ltd. The other series include Networking Laboratory Manuals, Human Physiology Learning Manuals, Clinical Skills Learning Management & Practice Manuals, Clinical Skills Practical Application Handbook.R L Bijlani's major contribution was in developing a new way of teaching medical students. This new teaching method is called the concept based teaching method which is based on concepts rather than facts and is very effective when used to teach physiology. A lot of teaching material based on this teaching method is available at Uniliv.com. Dr. R L Bijlani is a member of the editorial board in a number of journals and a reviewer in a number of journals including Biochemistry and Biophysics Education Journal; CSIR-UGC NET in Physiology; Indian Journal of Medical Education; Indian J Physiol Pharmacol etc. Dr Bijlani has been invited to many national and international conferences to deliver lectures, including the 8th International University physiology conference held at Shanghai from October 10–12, 2010 when he delivered his lecture entitled “Physiology: the Pathway to Health” which was very well received. cfa1e77820
